Chapter 237.2
Chapter 237.2
“Ah…”
The cold that wrapped around my soles felt familiar, like home. Even though I was running away from the blizzard, part of me wanted to just bury myself in it.
If I die, will that bastard Lee Wooshin get contacted? That random thought made my steps slow. I felt something tighten in my throat.
“….!”
At that moment, a motorcycle suddenly came speeding out of the darkness, slamming its brakes, and crashing into me.
With the loud sound of something breaking, my body was thrown without warmth.
“Ugh!”
As I closed my eyes from exhaustion, dreams of searching for someone aimlessly swirled around my mind like a delirium.
Is this how I’m going to die? An unknown whistle tickled my ears. Yet, my mind remained empty, still searching for its owner.
Someone, please… hug me… I don’t want to be alone…
“Ah! No! Ah!”
A woman, in a state of despair, crawled toward me on all fours. Through my blurry vision, I managed to make out the fallen motorcycle beside me.
Winter… Winter’s end?
***
I had a long dream. I desperately reached out, fell off a cliff, and relentlessly raised my head.
That was the only reason for life.
‘I want to see…yeah. I want to see… someone.’
“Ugh!”
Suddenly, waking from the nightmare, a violent cough erupted as if new breath had opened up.
Did I die? Did I finally die? With my dull mind, I only swallowed my groans, when unexpectedly, a youthful face appeared.
“Your eyes, you’re awake, right?”
Huge eyes filled my vision, scanning my face thoroughly. What is this…
“Mister? Hello? Are you feeling a bit better?”
“….”
“Am I awake?” At that question, some kind of expectation shattered, and a powerless sigh gathered in my throat.
Damn it, if you were going to hit me, why didn’t you just run me over completely? Why stop the brakes there?
I didn’t know if this was my nth disappointment or resignation. I just stared at the ceiling, feeling my appetite completely vanish.
“Do you remember? The accident… the accident happened. So we went to the ER…”
The trembling voice in my ear was full of fear.
“I-I couldn’t verify your identity, so… I moved you here on my own…”
I only moved my eyes to watch the woman. Her lower lip was so chewed that blood had gathered on the flesh, turning it red. Seeing that strangely desperate and frantic face drained me of all emotion.
“Mister… what’s your name?”
“Kim Chunbok.”
“Ah… Kim Chunbok… I’m so sorry… I’ve committed a grave sin.”
The woman suddenly dropped to her knees with a thud, as if to confess. What is this?
My ankles, shackled in handcuffs, were fixed to the bed frame. I looked around and squinted my eyes.
My naked body had been covered with loose clothing, top and bottom, and white bandages were wrapped around my shoulders and elbows. But this wasn’t a hospital.
As I slowly scanned the ceiling, dust rose in the space that felt utterly devoid of life. I locked eyes with the woman, who was still trembling and biting her lip.
“Are you the hit-and-run driver?”
“No, no…! Technically, I didn’t hit you and leave you…! It’s not a hit-and-run, I swear. I-I’m sorry! I should’ve gone to the police station right away, but…”
The woman squeezed her eyes shut and clenched her jaw. I shook the handcuffs clamped around my ankles, the metal clicking loudly, and scratched my eyebrows.
The world had become terrifying.
Ah, it’s so frightening I can’t even live anymore.
