Chapter 116.2
Chapter 116.2
Andre sent emails often, sometimes several in a single day whenever the mood struck him. They were short and straightforward, yet they mercilessly shook the heart of the person reading them.

I miss you.
André
At those two words, I miss you, Miran’s knees went weak. She could not bring herself to stand up from where she sat for a long while.

Did I say I loved you?
I don’t think I did.
I love you.
André
This time, heat rushed through her body, and she tied up her long hair with her hands and fanned her flushed face for a while.
Not long after, she passed the first round of the flight attendant interview. Seven candidates in uniform crowded into the room, and the group interview felt no different from auditioning as an extra in a movie.
The English interview asked about the most memorable place she had traveled to and why. Miran answered confidently, New York.
She spoke about meeting people from all over the world and experiencing diverse cultures, an answer she had memorized thoroughly in advance. If she passed the height to weight check and the personality assessment next week, the final interview would be with the executives.
The days felt unbearably slow, yet when she looked up, it was already November, late autumn. Juran’s surgery date was just around the corner.

I’m on vacation from next Thursday until the following Monday.
I’m going to Korea. Let’s meet.
André
After agonizing for a long time, Miran replied, typing with her two fingers.

My mom’s surgery is on Friday, so even if you come, I can’t meet you.
And please stop shaking my resolve. I really can’t go to New York. I won’t.
Miran
PS. I hope you’re breathing well.
She stared at the monitor, and not long after, Andre’s reply arrived. Even though she had grown used to the speed of email, it still startled her every time.

I was asked to stay by your side on the day of the surgery.
So your refusal is rejected.
I love you.
André
PS. You don’t have to come to New York. If I re enlist, I can volunteer to be stationed in Korea. If you stay by my side, I don’t think going back to the military would be so bad.

Miran furrowed her brows deeply and blinked.
“…Asked? Asked by who?”
She jumped up and rushed into the living room, flinging open the door to Juran’s room.
“Mom! Did you meet Andre?”
Juran, who had been sitting at her vanity slathering shiny cold cream over her face, clutched her chest and shouted.
“You almost gave me a heart attack!”
“Did you meet Andre? When exactly?”
Juran rubbed the cream in with her fingers and answered shamelessly.
“Was it last month? You went out to meet a friend, and the man from the photo was standing in front of the house. I told him to come in and wait. He said he was on the way to the airport and just wanted to see your face, so I couldn’t talk long. Maybe fifteen minutes?”
“What did you tell Andre? Did you really say I asked him to be there on the day of the surgery?”
“So, is he coming?”
“Wow… how am I the only one who didn’t know any of this?”
Miran let out a frustrated snort, but Juran ignored her and continued.
“He’s much more handsome in person than in photos. Tall, well built, handsome enough to put most movie stars to shame, but with a heavy, serious presence. Polite, well mannered. And his eye color was so beautiful. If you two have kids someday, they’d be gorgeous… oh dear. I got ahead of myself.”
Juran laughed awkwardly and vigorously brushed her hair. Her entire face gleamed under the fluorescent light. Unable to suppress her curiosity any longer, Miran finally asked,
“…What did you talk about?”
“Talk about what? I scolded him properly. I listed everything you told me one by one and asked how he dared to come here, and told him never to come back again.”
“Well… you didn’t have to go that far…”
Miran trailed off.
