Chapter 3.1
Chapter 3.1
Their gazes clashed in the air. Haewon knew Kwon Yeonwoo was an incredibly important person, but with no backup, his reckless behavior in this situation would be problematic.
She wouldn’t actually abandon him, as he was a protection target, but she needed to put him in his place to some extent.
Kwon Yeonwoo lowered his eyes to the gun barrel pressed against his heart, then slowly licked his lower lip with his tongue.
“Gonna shoot?”
“Depends on what you do.”
Kwon Yeonwoo then fixed his gaze on Haewon and murmured lowly.
“You’re ridiculously hot.”
“…What?”
His response was entirely unexpected, and Haewon’s reaction was half a beat too slow. She frowned, her expression hardening as she stared at him. Kwon Yeonwoo pushed his thick chest further against the gun barrel and said,
“Wanna kill me? It’s my wish.”
“……!”
“Dying by those grim bastards felt kinda… meh. Dying by your hand might be okay though?”
“Ha.”
This guy’s lost his mind.
A low, disbelieving chuckle escaped her as she withdrew the gun and took a step back. He looked perfectly fine, but maybe he was truly high on drugs. That would explain him making no sense and spouting nonsense.
Haewon decided that further conversation was a waste of time. What was there to talk about with someone out of their mind?
Shaking her head, she walked past Yeonwoo towards the door. Given Kwon Yeonwoo’s state, she needed to prepare for the highest possibility of an emergency.
Kwon Yeonwoo grinned, pressing close behind Haewon.
“Angel. I’ll be looking forward to it, okay? You have to make me come with that pretty gun, alright?”
Her head throbbed instantly. An…gel? And what? Make him come? Ha.
It was the most outlandish thing she’d ever heard in her life. Haewon pretended not to hear and spoke in a low voice.
“Follow me. And don’t act on your own, ever.”
It seemed better to draw a clear line.
As she spoke stiffly and turned around, she heard Kwon Yeonwoo chuckle softly behind her.
“I’m pretty useful, you know?”
She didn’t bother to answer. From her experience, the world was vast, and there were plenty of psychos. Especially in her world.
When dealing with psychos, indifference was always the answer.
She maintained her guard, opened the door, and stepped out. Fortunately, the hallway was still quiet. Cautiously, she walked out and rummaged through the pockets of the large man she had knocked out earlier, retrieving his gun.
“Do you know how to use a gun?”
She looked back at him with a skeptical face, and Yeonwoo’s eyes curved as he replied.
“I’ve served in the military, you know.”
It wasn’t a very convincing statement. Haewon tucked the retrieved gun into her back pocket for now. Entrusting Kwon Yeonwoo with a loaded gun was a rather risky gamble. Though, of course, if the situation absolutely required it, she’d have no choice.
As she turned away, Yeonwoo made a sound of disappointment.
“I even got a lot of reward leave for my shooting skills.”
Haewon didn’t reply and carefully moved forward. She kept trying to contact Ha Gyuho, but there was no answer; she wondered what he was doing.
She hoped nothing would happen before Ha Gyuho could join them.
“We’re taking the stairs down. We’ll meet up with another agent downstairs and get out of here. Stick close behind me.”
“As you command, Angel.”
“……”
His subtly mocking tone was irritating. It had been a long time since she’d encountered someone so glib. How many drugs had he taken for him to be in such a state?
The mission difficulty was higher than expected. How was she supposed to get out of the building safely with a man like that trailing behind her?
At that moment, the door leading to the emergency stairwell burst open, and men began to rush in.
“……!”
They wielded various weapons: knives, axes, iron pipes, hammers, and the like.
And this time, most of them seemed to be Southeast Asian rather than Chinese. Haewon quickly scanned them. Judging by their grip on the weapons, they weren’t skilled fighters.
However, whether it was due to their numerical superiority or because Haewon, who led the charge, was just one woman, they were already triumphant, like people who had won the battle.
“Don’t let a single one escape!”
A burly man at the front shouted in Burmese, and the men around him cheered, rushing forward.
“Stay behind me.”
Haewon warned Kwon Yeonwoo, then immediately pulled the trigger. The suppressed gun pierced the heart of the leading man in one shot.
“Ugh!”
As the man in front was shot and fell, the others became enraged and charged. When facing so many adversaries, it was crucial to finish them off in one blow.
She prioritized her movement, taking down the men one by one. But the hallway was quite wide, making her worry about Kwon Yeonwoo behind her.
She quickly dealt with the men nearby, then created as much distance as possible and approached Kwon Yeonwoo. She pulled out the gun from her waistband and held it out to him, saying,
“Hold it tight with both hands and only shoot the ones that get right in front of you. You don’t need to help me, so don’t shoot aimlessly.”
To her surprise, Kwon Yeonwoo took the gun without a word. For a moment, a strange glint appeared in his eyes as he looked at the gun, but she had no time to focus on it.
“Yaaaaah!”
Haewon turned her attention back to the enemy charging at her. She barely dodged an axe blade flying towards her face, then lowered her stance and shot the man in the leg. As he fell, she caught the axe he dropped and slammed it into the back of his neck. It was a fluid, natural motion.
“Kuuh!”
With so many people, as soon as one was dealt with, another rushed in. In close quarters, a knife was more useful than a gun. As a slicing sound echoed through the hallway like the ticking of a clock, a sharp sensation grazed her arm.
“Ugh!”
