Chapter 5.2
Chapter 5.2
At one in the afternoon, Hajun headed to the appointed location for a slightly later lunch than usual.
He vigorously shook his freshly showered hair to dry it. It had only been a 30-minute workout, but the intensity was incredible.
This was a secret strategy Hajun had devised himself, due to constantly being dragged around like an ox every day. Whenever work became tiresome, he would steal a moment to rush to the company gym on the sixth floor.
They expect him to do this for another thirty years? Wow… He couldn’t. He didn’t want to. He just wanted to play. He hated working.
Despite his complaints, everything Hajun touched turned into outstanding results.
Some even said that Hajun had surely hoarded all the luck of his ancestors.
While there was a theory that the curse flowing through the Ihan Group had completely shifted when Kim Seojun, who had been used as a scapegoat, took the position of chairman, one thing was certain: luck had followed Hajun throughout his life.
Hajun took lightly all the worldly wisdom he could grasp without any special effort.
“Director.”
The driver opened the car door for him. Even after showering with cold water, the heat had not completely subsided, so Hajun rolled the window all the way down.
“Are you hot?”
At Secretary Kang’s words, who was seated beside him, the driver quickly turned on the air conditioner.
“Yes, I pushed myself a bit.”
“I should have chosen something cooler for your meal. I apologize, Director. I didn’t think that far ahead.”
“No, it’s fine. I was the one who snuck off from work to exercise.”
“…”
“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to make things difficult for you all the time, Secretary Kang, but I also need a space to breathe.”
“Yes, I understand. I’ll try to adjust your schedule so you can exercise more often.”
Hajun raised an eyebrow at her words.
As soon as she confirmed the heat had left his face, Secretary Kang handed him a brief on the interpreter’s background. Hajun declined it.
“I’ll be seeing her soon anyway.”
“Yes, she works as a simultaneous interpreter, and despite her short career, her results have been quite good. She also has a deep understanding of business and management, so it’s believed she’ll be quite an asset for this trip.”
“Are you talking about Executive Director Park’s assessment?”
“Yes.”
“It’s clearly a conspiracy between my father and him to butter me up. I suppose I should just go along with it good-naturedly this time too, shouldn’t I?”
At Hajun’s pointed remarks, Secretary Kang showed a momentarily troubled expression. She noted that for someone with his easygoing personality, he diligently completed any task without a single complaint, which made him a good boss in her eyes.
“Yes, Director. I always admire and learn from you.”
“You’re quite good at flattery, aren’t you? Without even wetting your lips.”
Secretary Kang quickly moistened her lips. Hajun glanced at her sidelong before asking,
“Did you see a photo?”
“Yes.”
“Is she pretty?”
“Yes! She’s incredibly beautiful.”
Executive Director Park had claimed it was a misunderstanding, but it was obvious his father had assigned a pretty interpreter to him, clearly hoping he’d get married quickly. He was practically flaunting his intentions. His father was really trying hard to get his son married before he turned thirty.
‘Father, your son’s standards are higher than you think. Unless she looks like Shin Yeonsu, then probably not… Ah, you crazy bastard.’
He was opening his mouth even though the giver wasn’t thinking of giving. Hajun shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He needed to maintain his pride.
Soon, he arrived at the appointed spot and couldn’t hide his surprise as he prepared to greet the person.
Sitting before Hajun was Yeonsu. She had mentioned having an important meeting today, but he never expected this to be that meeting.
Shin Yeonsu, who usually dressed casually for gatherings, was impeccably styled from head to toe today. Her cream-colored two-piece outfit clearly looked expensive, and though she usually seemed to dislike accessories, earrings now adorned her ears. Her makeup wasn’t heavy, but it was clearly applied with care, and her hairstyle had a touch of effort. One would believe it was a blind date, not a meeting between a director and an interpreter. She was so dazzling that he almost felt he had to ask if he was even allowed to sit at the same table.
He turned around, giving Secretary Kang a look that asked if this was definitely the right table. Reading his gaze, Secretary Kang nodded, signaling that it was correct.
Hajun rubbed the bridge of his nose.
“Can I, uh, sit down?”
Yeonsu, also flustered, looked up at him, then stood up from her seat.
“Senior.”
Only then did Hajun reach back, pull out the documents Secretary Kang had prepared, and begin to read.
It was clearly Shin Yeonsu’s resume.
Secretary Kang indicated she would wait in the car and then backed away.
“Alright.”
In the space where only the two of them remained, he glanced at Yeonsu once more.
“You never said you were an interpreter?”
As he sat down and took a sip of water, Yeonsu also calmly sat down, following his lead.
“Didn’t I tell you I’d grown up?”
