Chapter 61.1
Chapter 61.1
“Oh, this?”
Ara tilted her head and looked down at her collarbone. When she touched it, the cool metal brushed against her fingertips.
“It was a gift.”
She stopped there. Seol-do narrowed his eyes.
“A gift? From who?”
“Uh…”
Ara hesitated, then glanced toward the sofa beside him.
Her eyes met Seok-kyung’s.
He was staring at her necklace. His gaze traced the shining gem, followed the silver chain, then locked onto her eyes.
Before Ara could read what that look meant, Seok-kyung turned away. His digital pencil scratched quickly across the tablet.
He probably doesn’t want Seol-do to know yet.
Ara guessed to herself and shrugged.
“It’s a secret.”
“A secret?”
Seol-do scoffed.
“I wasn’t gonna say anything, but really.”
He pointed the TV remote at each of them in turn.
“If you and the king ever worked as con artists, you’d be dead already. Probably choking on incense behind some folding screen.”
So it’s that obvious.
Ara said nothing and shifted her eyes. Baekseol clicked her tongue beside her.
“You two can’t lie. Just write what you’re thinking on your foreheads and get it over with.”
“…”
“When it’s that obvious and you still give bad answers, it drives the other person crazy, you know?”
His words hit home.
Seok-kyung sighed and stood up from the sofa.
“Na Ara.”
“Yes?”
“Follow me.”
Seok-kyung crossed the living room and went up the stairs.
Ara didn’t know what was going on, but followed anyway. Behind her, Seol-do and Baekseol whispered and snickered to each other.
He climbed to the top floor and turned down the right hallway. Ara looked around and tilted her head.
This corridor was different from the others. It only had two rooms, a storage room filled with treasures, and Seok-kyung’s bedroom.
“Where are we going?”
“My room.”
His calm voice came from ahead.
Ara froze, frowning.
Since she had moved in, she’d been to nearly every part of the house with his permission. Every part except his room.
He had always kept it vague when it came to his private space. He had told her not to enter it without permission.
She assumed he was just a goblin with a strong sense of privacy. It made sense that a man, especially one who wasn’t human, would hesitate to let a woman into his personal space.
But now? So suddenly, so casually?
“Wh… why there?”
Her tongue stumbled over the words. The moment it did, heat rushed to her face.
“To finish our talk about the spirit,” he said, stopping at the end of the hallway. He gripped the doorknob and turned to her with a calm face.
“Oh.”
So that was it.
Ara let out a small sigh.
He caught her reaction right away and gave her a sideways look. A faint smile tugged at his lips.
“What’s that face for? What were you thinking?”
“I wasn’t thinking anything.”
Too perceptive for his own good.
She muttered to herself and followed him in.
The room was surprisingly ordinary, shaped like the master bedroom of a high-end apartment.
Of course, nothing in it looked cheap. The bed, the furniture, even the rug under the table looked expensive and refined.
But there were no shelves of treasures or ancient books like she’d imagined. It didn’t look like a royal chamber at all.
“Anyone who sees this would think you’re trying to sell me the place,” she murmured as she glanced around.
Seok-kyung clicked his tongue.
“Sit.”
Ara took the scolding but still glanced around the room as she sat down at the table Seok-kyung pointed to.
He soon sat across from her, crossing his long legs. His deep eyes swept over her face, checking her color.
“Looks like you’re alive again. You even have the energy to look around.”
“Yes. Thanks to your devoted nursing, Mr. Kim Seok-kyung.”
