Chapter 266.1
Chapter 266.1
“I should have just taken the money and left. Why did I have to act like I knew better?!”
Asha of the Gurkha unit pressed hard against her bleeding shoulder and shook the chains binding Seoryeong with irritation. No matter how she looked at it, the metal was too solid. She could not find a single weak point to crush or snap.
Two mercenaries were already dead, and her shoulder injury was severe. If she returned in this condition, she would lose at least a few months stuck in bed.
“Damn it, this is so annoying!”
Asha glared at Seoryeong like she was staring at an enemy. What was so special about this woman? Just because she had been the only outsider to visit her island? If she had not been someone the target knew, she would have shot her. For real.
“Do you seriously want to burn to death?!”
Asha recalled the sight of Seoryeong walking beside Tae Mu-kyung with that heavily pregnant belly. She shook her head hard, as if trying to erase the brief shock she had felt.
All she had done was approach Seoryeong and confess that the man beside her had hired her as a sniper. She had told her to be careful.
Instead of running away, Seoryeong had offered double the money and treated her like a miser. To be fair, she was a miser. And then she had turned around and bought her instead. A vicious woman.
She had strutted around like that, and now look at her. Serves her right. But why the hell would these bindings not come off?
Asha slammed the chains over and over in panic while sneaking glances at the unfamiliar Kim Hyun.
Wait. That guy… He was in the wedding photo Instructor Maxim treasured so much. The bride and groom in that picture…!
“But, ahem, what about Instructor Maxim? Weren’t you two a thing? You used to lift each other up and kiss in front of all of us. So what is with that belly?”
“.…”
“What, did you go back to your original husband? Guess the old flame is the best, huh?”
Seoryeong did not respond. She only tracked the clash between the two men, who were firing wildly and knocking each other’s aim aside.
Asha rolled her eyes and dragged out her words. A faint blush colored her cheeks.
“Thennn… is Instructor Maxim single now?”
“If you call him Instructor one more time, I will dump you in here too,” Seoryeong flicked water from the bathtub with her fingers.
Asha dodged the droplets and hissed, “Damn…!” She clutched her bleeding shoulder tighter to stop the blood. Seoryeong’s expression dimmed slightly at the sight.
At that moment, the heavy thud of military boots approached at frightening speed. Sharp eyes swept over the generator, then scanned the damp warehouse.
“Instructor, your back!”
Seoryeong turned pale first and shouted. She was about to scream at him, asking if he had lost his mind exposing his back—
But then she saw Tae Mu-kyung standing frozen, staring blankly at Kim Hyun’s face, and she shut her mouth.
Her brows knit together on their own. She knew the obsession when she saw it. That was obsession, one hundred percent. It could not be anything else.
As someone with experience, Seoryeong wanted to drag her superior’s attention away. The problem was, she could not get out of here.
“Seoryeong.”
Their eyes met with Lee Wooshin, who was breathing hard. No, with the face of ‘Kim Hyun’ she had not seen in a long time. Seoryeong frowned with an unreadable expression.
“It is okay. Instructor, no, you trust your husband, right?”
Before she could answer, Lee Wooshin smiled as if to reassure her and aimed his gun at her.
“…!”
What…?
Was it because she had told him earlier to just die? Had she gone too far? Seoryeong stiffened at the back of her neck and found herself watching her husband nervously.
***
In that instant, bang, bang, bang, bang. The gunshots roared without pause, pounding against her ears. Seoryeong flinched and opened her eyes to a slit, only to see him firing like a madman straight at the bathtub.
The cast iron bathtub did not crack easily. But little by little, water began to seep out in thin threads from the bullet marks embedded in it. Seoryeong watched the sight, her pounding heart slowly easing.
“Instr…uctor….”
Lee Wooshin’s desperate will was carving fractures into it. He absorbed the recoil with one shoulder and did not blink once.
His face was drenched in sweat. The face of “Kim Hyun,” twisted with urgency. Seoryeong tightened her brow and swallowed back the surge rising in her chest.
But the moment his magazine ran dry, his eyes sharpened. Without hesitation, Lee Wooshin flicked his hand toward Asha, palm out.
Just as Asha moved to draw the small pistol at her waist as if to help him, Tae Mu-kyung fired.
Bang—!
A flash burst from afar. The bullet that grazed Asha’s shoulder again left a thin cut across Seoryeong’s cheek as well.
An unspoken warning that outsiders should not interfere. When a line of blood slid down Seoryeong’s face, Lee Wooshin’s expression warped instantly. A violent light flared in his eyes.
“That is enough. Stay back!”
He shoved Asha away coldly. She staggered and crashed into the old cement wall.
Lee Wooshin turned ice cold and immediately began searching the mercenaries’ corpses without hesitation. Asha erupted into a stream of curses at the sight.
“…Just delay it by one second. Just one second….”
He muttered over and over with a face that looked almost possessed. He stripped off the mercenaries’ bulletproof vests, slashed holes into them with a knife, then tore them open with his teeth. Each time he clenched his molars, the red veins in his forehead bulged as if they might burst.
